Greater Community

In addition to our forays into our community, we share our resources to help people locally and nationally and internationally.

Local
  • We share a worship service with the assisted living facility across the street from our church.  We move our full worship service including children's message, choir, membership and allow our neighbors to worship in an environment reminiscent of their earlier worship experiences.
  • In preparation for winter, the deacons prepare a “Mitten Tree” where we gather and hang winter clothes for kids in need; mittens, caps, scarves, socks are collected and then distributed through a local service agency.
  • The church collects toiletry items to give to teenagers who are in “Wings”, an adolescent treatment center for young people caught in the trap of addiction to drugs or alcohol.

National
  • Through the mission wing of the Presbyterian Church (USA) we take collections to aid  the victims of natural disasters in the United States such as Hurricane Katrina.

International
  • India - The children in Sunday School are sponsoring a child in India who is in need.  They are donating their gifts and doing fund raising to help this child through Tabitha's Heart.
  • Kenya - Jessica Hasslen is a missionary from St. Cloud who has made a connection with our congregation.  Her mission in Kenya focuses on youth living with HIV.  We support her with prayers and gifts.
  • Belize - Through contacts of a member of our church we have sent medical supplies to a village in Belize as well as helping to build a basketball court in a city park.
  • Guatemala - Our own Presbytery of Minnesota Valleys has a sister Presbytery in Guatemala with whom we share prayer concerns and news updates.  Annually, mission  trips are made to work on providing them clean water.

World-wide Children's needs

  • The PW annually makes items needed by babies and children in poverty anywhere in the world.  Knit hats and sweaters, diapers made out of discarded t-shirts, booties are distributed by the national church to places of need.

Christian Community Committee

The Christian Community Committee (CCC) came about by combining the Fellowship and Outreach Committees. This committee works to foster a sense of fellowship with the congregation and to reach out to meet needs within our community.

We actively look for opportunities to assist other community groups and organizations in concrete ways that enable them to meet their needs.

CCC has sponsored many activities for members and their friends like bowling, museum trips, Twins games, rollerskating and fishing/pontoon rides. These provide us with an opportunity to get to know one another outside of the church setting.

We also reach out to our neighbors and friends and invite them to share in the Christian community.
