I checked our church's roof-line this week. I was wondering if we have any lightening rods protecting our building from the effects of being struck by lightning. I did this in response to an article I read, “A Lightning Rod Instead of a Cross.” No author was listed so I can't give proper credit. But he began with this thought, “If it were up to most of its members, modern churches would have lightning rods on their steeples instead of crosses.” He said this in reference to the events Kay read to us in Acts. He suggested that a metaphor for the wondrous events of Pentecost is the church being struck by lightning. Then he points out most churches would likely choose a lightning rod because, “The lightning rods would serve as protection against such events ever happening again.”
