We've been reading from the Old Testament book of Jeremiah for the past few weeks. I haven't given you an in-depth background of this prophet, but we did look closely at his call and commissioning by God. He was consecrated by God to announce God's judgment on the nation Israel. Jeremiah's life was filled with loneliness, violence, rejection. We are up to chapter 18 and he has been busy calling for Israel to repent. He has listed their sins and their unfaithfulness. He has warned that they would be invaded and the land made desolate. And he felt their pain, chapter 4, “My anguish, my anguish, I writhe in pain...for my people are foolish, they are skilled in doing evil but do not know how to do good.” Do you remember his nickname? The weeping prophet.
