November 29, 2015 First Sunday in Advent
There is a song from my High School days—I won't sing it—Rhonda--but the words go like this: “Sign, sign, everywhere are signs, blockin' out the scenery, blowing my mind. Do this, don’t do that, can't you read the sign?” Our gospel reading has Jesus talking about signs; signs that his followers are supposed to read: “signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves.” Signs that may indeed blow our minds. Got me thinking about signs...when Julie and I lived in Atwater, there was a sign that blew our minds. It was as you enter the Park by the lake. There was a sign that said, “Welcome to our Park” and directly under it a “Do Not Enter” sign.
